The Tai Chi and Qi Gong with Fang Association will showcase a celebration of Tai Chi health and wellness Sunday, November 8, 1:00-2:30, at the Spire Center of the Performing Arts. Performers of all ages, from kids to seniors, will show multiple Tai Chi forms. The informative and entertaining performances are a fundraiser for the Association’s children’s program.
“Children need to make healthy choices,” says Fang-Chih Lee, the Association’s founder and master instructor. “Participation in Tai Chi improves students strength, coordination, positive interaction with others, and confidence.”
According to Lee, the current class, launched six months ago, has been a success, but its continuation and growth needs additional funding to provide scholarships. The children’s program also needs additional equipment. Lee has high praise for the four other instructors who like her have been volunteering their time. “We know children will avoid making unhealthy choices, both now and in later years, when they are involved in healthy activities that provide a mature sense of self. With its emphasis on slow, graceful motions and inner harmony, Tai Chi has been doing this for people for over three-thousand years.”
Admission is $5.00. Tickets will be sold at the door. There will also be raffles. Many local businesses are supporting this event with donations. The Spire, for example, has provided its theater at no cost. After the performances the audience can visit the open space downstairs where the Tai Chi and Qi Gong with Fang Association holds classes. Refreshments will be served. During this time the audience can mingle with the performers and learn how they became dedicated Tai Chi practitioners.
“They all have inspiring stories to tell,” Lee promises.
The Spire is located at 25 1/2 Court Street, Plymouth, MA, right across the street from the old court house.
